Let's start with the ladies since there are fewer of them. I could have picked a bazillion but made the mistake of looking at the guys first and ran out of room!
Nargis: In this screencap from Awara, she demonstrates how she could light up the screen, and any movie in which she played a part.
Kareena: How can you look at this picture and question my choice?
Amrita Rao. I'm pretty sure she can act, after seeing her in Main Hoon Na and Vivah. Regardless, she's freaking gorgeous.
Rekha: her strong features made this unconventional beauty stand out from the baby-faced crowd. She's aged in a more interesting fashion than most, too.
Preity: no list like this would be complete without mention of my favorite. Her dimples are adorable and her sharp mind admirable, but she can also rock the classy look, as the above photo (from Vogue) demonstrates.
Kajol: Oh, please. The woman has a unibrow and is amazingly beautiful. Plus I love her real-girl body: yay for curves! Now, on to the menfolk:
Shahid Kapoor: He's ditched the babyface and the boy-band clothes, so I can love him without cringing.
Sonu Sood: his sensitive portrayal of Jodhaa's brother added to the all-around fabulosity of Jodhaa Akbar, but his amazing physique makes it pretty clear he considers working out his day job.
Roshan (or Shiney) Ahuja: He totally wishes he had found me first. Or maybe that's just my very able imagination talking. Ssshhh, don't break the emotion.
Shashi--I totally stole this screencap from Memsaab because it made me drool on my keyboard.
Abhishek: Yes, smoking is very bad for you. But I'm pretty sure that cigar spontaneously ignited from proximity.
SRK: he doesn't always float my boat, but in Asoka he rocked the kohl and my dil.
Hrithik: I stole this from his Stargazing thread at BollyWHAT (it was taken by Andromache, to whom the forum owes a debt of gratitude). Before his surgery, and forced rest, I would've said he was off-puttingly musclebound. Now that he's got wrists and a neck again, I've joined most of the rest of the guy-prefering world in admiration.
Jackie Shroff: I know, I know. I might be the only one who's got him on my list. But he and Madhuri were the two best things about Devdas. (Preview!) Dude, he's aged well.
Loooooove the banner! :) That's first thing I noticed.
ReplyDeleteI haven't done the lady's list. I'm too busy drooling for the men I listed on my blog, hehehe.
It's always interesting to know what others think.
You know, I didn't list the men from the past. I just listed hotties now. I'll have to rethink again. Man, this is going to be fun to do tomorrow at work...wait, I have to study, lol.
I love these list thingies. Its like a child being let loose in a candy store - so much to choose from. :-) I'm glad to see you included Hrithik. The poor chap seems to be terribly unpopular in the blogging world! Shashi of course is a good choice any time, but I am surprised to see him in your list. Have you seen any of his movies?
ReplyDelete"Sanjay. I don't see any Nargis in him."
Very true, but if you happen to catch any Nargis movie you will see plenty of Sanjay in her!
Nicki--thanks! Really, my husband deserves most of the credit; I just came up with the concept and did the stills. I think you should do a lady's list *and* a hot desi men of yesteryear list. What are these "responsibilities" of which you speak? LOL
ReplyDeleteBollyviewer--I like Hrithik, I really do. I admire his work ethic and offscreen personality as well as much of his offscreen work, but then again his amazing good looks might play a factor in my partiality. ;-) I have seen a couple of Shashi movies (Swayamvar, at least I think that's how it's spelled? and Shaan) but even if I hadn't I would've stuck him on the list on the strength of that screencap. :-D
I've seen Mother India and Awara but nothing else with Nargis. At least, I don't think so. I really want to watch as much of her as I can find though.
Hoooooboy that's some good Shashi you have there. Somehow it had never occurred to find a way to put Shashi (mega-favorite) and Abhishek (favorite who is currently working) next to each other in an post. I admire your cunning!
ReplyDeleteAlso, yay for Kareena! I find her stunningly beautiful, especially when rockin' the heavy eyeliner. I couldn't stop making banners of stills of her from Jab We Met.
That sounded creepy. I'll stop now.
PS Love the banner!
Beth--I *know*, right? Memsaab totally scored with that! I challenge you to find another way to converge Abhi and Shashi. And I think Kareena was massively gorgeous in Asoka. In JWM they also cut way down on the makeup, which is always a good thing for her, but Asoka was awesome. And thanks for the compliment!
ReplyDeleteLove it! The challenge shall be met! At some point in the indeterminate future! Woo!
ReplyDeleteloved your banner! and yes, having Shashi, Abhishek, Shiney, and Hrithik on one list!!! Holy jezzuz! I'm still drooling over my keyboard! :D
ReplyDeleteP.S. how about a black n white list? would love to see some Shammi, Waheeda, and some early Dev Anand (there's something really off-putting about the later Dev Anand hairdo)
Beth, I'm eagerly awaiting the result. :-D
ReplyDeleteHi quirkyalone! Thanks for dropping in, and for commenting (and for complimenting my new banner LOL). You know, Shammi and Waheeda are soooo beautiful but I've never seen an entire film with either of them. I've really got to remedy that gap in my Hindi education but I'm about 40 movies deep in my Netflix queue! :-D Dev Anand... OOh, and Guru Dutt too. Yeah, I'll have to do a b & w list, but if you get around to doing one first be sure and post a link!
Dude, Jackie is on my list as well... not far behind Shashi. We can be in the Lonely Jackie Coveters Club together.
ReplyDeleteExcellent, PPCC! I propose the LJCC write its bylaws soon and that, together, we bring legitimacy to Jackie the way the PPCC (along with others) has brought legitimacy to masala. LOL
